855 - A NEW TOLL-FREE AREA CODE
A new toll-free area code has been added to the mix! Area Code 855 went into effect just a short time ago and is already gaining popularity! So, now, in addition to the well known leader, 800, we have 855, 866, 877, and 888 toll-free numbers available. Since 800 was the first, it's very difficult, if not impossible, to obtain a number beginning with that Toll-free area code! NOTE: If your company has a dedicated T1 for outbound long distance, you will need to check with your PBX administrator to make sure your equipment recognizes 855 as a toll-free area code and not another outbound area code. INTERNATIONAL FRAUD UPDATE & WARNING!
Recently, we have become aware of a significant increase in the amount of fraudulent traffic being sent to some international destinations.
Since the owner of the telephone equipment from which the fraudulent calls are sent is ultimately responsible for the charges incurred, we are providing this information as a foresight warning. We would like to remind our customers and others of the importance of taking the necessary steps to make sure telephone equipment, networks, and any piece of equipment that has access to networks, are kept secure to prevent hackers from making international calls.
